Kim Ji-won was born in Seoul on October 19, 1992, as the youngest of two daughters. She received strict upbringing from her parents, emphasizing etiquette and manners from a young age.

When she debuted in the entertainment industry, her mother cautioned her about public scrutiny, reminding her to be careful with her behavior.

Kim Ji-won spent some time living in Chicago, USA, with relatives during her first year of middle school. However, after returning from the USA, she had to attend school for an additional year to catch up, eventually dropping out before entering high school to take the high school equivalency exam.

In 2010, she officially debuted through an LG Lollipop 2 commercial with Big Bang, and the same year appeared in an Oronamin C beverage advertisement by Dong-A Otsuka.

During her third year of middle school, she was street-cast by her first agency, Lion Media, although she had never thought of becoming an actress before.

During her high school years as a trainee, she juggled her training life with evening self-study, becoming busier from her second year and barely attending regular school.

After the conclusion of “High Kick! Revenge of the Short Legged,” she made headlines by venturing into Japan as a J-POP singer, which was predicted to follow a similar path as her senior in the agency, Younha. However, contrary to expectations, she appeared in the movie “Horror Stories” and the SBS drama “To the Beautiful You” in 2012.

In 2016, Kim Ji-won delivered an outstanding performance as Captain Yoon Myung-joo, a military officer from the Special Forces, in the KBS2 drama “Descendants of the Sun.”

The drama achieved the highest viewership rating of 38.8% that year and became a major hit, with Kim Ji-won gaining popularity not only for her chemistry with Song Joong-ki’s character Yoo Shi-jin but also for her coupling with Jin Goo’s character Seo Dae-young.

After much consideration, she starred in her first leading role in the KBS2 drama “Fight for My Way” as Choi Ae-ra, dreaming of becoming an announcer, and garnered attention for her lovely and realistic portrayal of a young adult.

Her adorable charm displayed in the drama created a buzz with her unique and endearing acting style, leading her to be chosen as one of the best chemistry couples of 2017 alongside Park Seo-joon, who played Go Dong-man.

In the JTBC weekend drama “My Liberation Diary” in 2020, Kim Ji-won expanded her acting range by playing the lead role of Yeom Mi-jeong, which was well-received as a human drama.

She enjoys being at home and has a habit of placing everything she needs around her bed.

When she has no schedule outside, she prefers to lie down at home, listen to music, watch movies or dramas, and even reads scripts in her spare time.
